Lip flyers are a loft problem first
South wind steepens municipal faces. The ball sits on a crust that wants to launch it up the lip. Grooves cannot hold what never stays on the face. Opening a 56 here often skulls. The honest question is whether sixty is the only loft that still throws without climbing.
The wall
Eighteen inches of packed climb
Cole builds a lip, not a pretty postcard bunker. The high side is tamped. A grease-pencil line sits where a real lip would catch a low splash. If your ball hits the wall, it did not exit. If it climbs and runs across the painted collar, it flyered. Those two outcomes ask for different next lofts.
We keep this tray off the default menu because not every Corpus golfer plays steep faces. Flour Bluff and certain Padre holes do. If you never see a lip, do not pay for this tray as theater.
What a flyer is not
It is not “spin loft” as a prairie-window lecture. It is not a grind sit. It is a ball that used the lip as a ramp because the face never kept it. We write that in coastal English, then we test a 60 on the same ramp.
When we skip this tray
Buried lies in wet Gulf sand. Deep fried-egg Mondays. Those golfers need Tray A, not a lip. Mixing them in one bucket of balls produces a story nobody can use on Saturday.
